NAPERVILLE, IL – Naperville’s nonprofit community television station is premiering a brand new talk show, Finding Common Ground. Focused on important current events and how they impact our diverse population, this show is hosted by two Naperville residents, Dana Davenport, an attorney at Accenture, and Rebecca Malotke-Meslin, the Enrollment Director at the Avery Coonley School. Tune in for the first episode of Finding Common Ground, a special Zoom edition, on Wednesday, June 3rd at 7 PM on Channel 17 and NCTV17.com.
“We’re taking the good, the bad, the ugly, all different sides of an issue and talking about it in hopes and in efforts to find common ground,” Davenport says. “There are many voices that make up our community, often with strong opinions on every side of an issue. In the interests of discovering collaborative solutions, this show invites both guests and viewers to acknowledge the four agreements of courageous conversations: stay engaged, speak your truth, experience discomfort, and to expect and accept non-closure.”
The premier episode will discuss the motives and the impact that racism continues to have in today’s society. Specifically, recent incidents that highlight racial tension related to COVID-19, the psychology of racism, as well as diversity and inclusion. “We’ve got some great experts joining us,” says Malotke-Meslin. “They can talk from their perspective, knowledge, and experience, but also share with us some tools to really make some change in our community.”
Naperville Community Television hopes that the conversations on Finding Common Ground will challenge viewers to see other perspectives and have an appreciation for experiences that may be different from their own. “Things can change in our society when people care enough to change them,” says Davenport. “And people can change, when they care to.”
So tune in on Wednesday, June 3rd at 7 PM on Channel 17 & NCTV17.com for the premiere of Finding Common Ground.
