Health Inspection Report: Granite City Food and Brewery

NAPERVILLE, IL — You might love the food, but sometimes the restaurants you visit aren’t always the cleanest places. And sometimes they are. You can know for sure with a health inspection report.

The DuPage County Health Department visited Granite City Food and Brewery Aug. 10.

Below are notes from the health department on items out of compliance:

  • Observed cut tomatoes- 54 degrees F and sliced tomatoes- 62 degrees F in reach- in seafood prep cooler. Cold foods should be held at a temperature of 41 degrees F or lower.
  • Observed an open beverage located on prep table. Beverages should have a lid and should be stored in a non- food zone.
  • Butane fuel stored on the same shelf as food product. Chemical products should be stored away from food products in a designated area.
  • Chemical sanitizer spray bottles in maintenance area do not have label. Chemical sanitizer should be labeled.
  • Container of corn meal does not have label.
  • Lemon juice in spray bottle not labeled. Provide label.
  • Thermometer on walk in freezer in disrepair. Repair or replace.
  • Open bags of food product (brown sugar, corn meal) sitting open in dry storage area. Open food product bags should be placed in a container with a lid once they have been opened.
  • Food product being stored on floor in dry storage area. Food product must be stored on shelving to keep food product at least 6 inches above the ground.

The restaurant received a demerit score of 29. Demerit scores start at zero and increase as violations are observed. This is the sum of the weight (Wt) of each item marked.
