My Mom, Cindie Solivan made what she called "Better than anything" cakes at Christmas time. She made many to gift to friends and family. She passed away in 2005 and I have held her tradition ever since. I'm proud to share a small part of her heart with as many people as possible. I feel that it keeps her memory alive in just a small way.
Everyone loves them and asks for them every single year!
I know she's smiling down!

Three Generations Make Gingerbread Houses by Karen Rascher

Years ago neighbors and close friends decided to get together to make gingerbread houses. We use graham crackers and glue them together with melted sugar, frost and decorate them. Each December we gather three generations of children, grandchildren and grandmothers! My kitchen feels much smaller now that most of our grandchildren are in high school, college or graduated from college, but it’s always been a happy place with lots of love.

Third-graders at Bannes School in Tinley Park have had the tradition of reading the story Polar Express and enjoying Polar Express Day. Our Elf on the Shelf delivers to them a ticket from Santa to ride the magical train, wear pajamas, drink hot chocolate, and receive a silver bell. Children are so excited and the teachers are just as excited to share this feel good time of the year with such wonderful children who “believe” in the holiday spirit.
