How To Get Up To 20 Gallons Of Free Finished Compost In Naperville

NAPERVILLE, IL — Naperville residents can get up to 20 gallons of finished compost on May 9, thanks to a partnership between the city, DuPage and Will Counties, Groot Industries and Midwest Compost.

The finished compost is ready to use and has been processed at one of Midwest Compost's IEPA-permitted landscape waste facilities.

Finished compost has been processed to the point that leaves, food and other materials are usually hard to identify. It can help improve the nutrients in soil and help fertilization.

Residents should bring their own bags, tubs or other containers for the compost, which will be filled by staff members from the city's Public Works and Sustainability Department. Residents must be able to lift and transport their filled containers.

Compost will be available while supplies last.

“International Compost Awareness Week, held during the first week of May, is an opportunity to build on Naperville residents’ growing interest in composting, as shown by the continued success of the Food Scrap Composting Program,” Sustainability Manager Ben Mjolsness said in a statement.

Mjolsness added, “This event allows residents to see the benefits of composting from start to finish and highlights sustainable services in Naperville.”

The free compost can be picked up from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on May 9 at the parking lot at 2601 Wolf's Crossing Rd. and Naperville Public Works Center, 180 Fort Hill Dr.
