Stella Defeats VlaKancic In 11th District Congressional Race
Dr. Nick Stella handily defeated Connor VlaKancic to earn the GOP nomination for the 11th Congressional District of Illinois.

NAPERVILLE, IL — Dr. Nick Stella defeated Connor VlaKancic in the GOP primaries for the 11th Congressional District and will face off against incumbent Rep. Bill Foster come November. Stella got 81.43% of the votes, with 100% of precincts reporting.
The final tally had Stella with 10, 215 votes, giving him a sizable difference over VlaKancic's 2,330.
Incumbent Foster headed into Tuesday's Democratic primaries unchallenged. Now Foster, a physicist, and Stella, a cardiologist, will go head to head in November.

This wasn't VlaKancic's first time making an unsuccessful bid for Congress. He previously ran in California's 15th Congressional District and then in its 17th Congressional District. VlaKancic bills himself as the original author of the "Contract of America," which he says he handed over to Newt Gingrich in 1994.
Connor VlanKancic told Sun-Times ahead of the election that he sought to "Make Illinois Great Again" and supports much of Donald Trump's political agenda, though he views owning or selling bump stocks as "immaterial." In that article famously called Melania Trump, "a Balkan delight."
Nick Stella supports repealing and replacing the Affordable Care Act and streamlining or replacing Medicare, according to his website. His stance on immigration includes supporting efforts to close the border between the U.S. and Mexico and to "overhaul visa programs to protect [America's] small businesses."
