India Day Canceled In Naperville Amid Coronavirus
The Aug. 9 festival may be replaced by a virtual performance, a car parade or a fireworks show.
NAPERVILLE, IL — Naperville's annual India Day celebration and parade have been canceled due to the ongoing new coronavirus crisis. Organizers from Indian Community Outreach made the announcement Monday via Facebook that the Aug. 9 festivities would be canceled.
In the Facebook post, India Day organizers wrote, "On behalf of all of us at [Indian Community Outreach], we are very disappointed to announce that due to the Governor's regulations and current situation, we will not be able to proceed with the India Day celebration this year as planned."
Festival organizers said they were open to alternative ways to celebrate the festival and were open to ideas from the public. Some possible alternatives include a virtual performance from a Bollywood singer, a fireworks show and a car parade.
