NAPERVILLE, IL — The Naperville City Council is set to vote Tuesday on whether to approve a new mosque complex proposed by Islamic Center of Naperville for at 3540 248th Ave. The proposed construction, which would include a school, a gymnasium and a multipurpose hall, has been met with vocal support and resistance from residents since it was first presented to city council in January 2021.

On Oct. 6, Naperville's Planning and Zoning Commission recommended approval of a conditional use permit for the development by a 6 to 1 vote, according to city documents.

Resistance to the development has come from residents who live near the mosque complex's proposed site, who have raised concerns about resulting traffic and the scope of the project, which would occupy 13.6 acres of land. Light pollution was also a concern for some nearby residents.
