When Jason and Lauren Jepsen started packaging and delivering fresh produce in April of this year, they did not anticipate creating the online culinary community that is Jepsen Produce. A quick glance at the company’s Facebook page, which has grown beyond 1,000 followers in a few short months, reveals shared recipes, customer contests, and even photos of kids curiously checking out their box’s contents.

Jason Jepsen has over 20 years of experience as an expert produce buyer for local restaurants and grocery stores. When COVID-19 struck, his wife Lauren, who has a background in management, recognized and decided to meet a community need for fresh and safe produce -- especially at a time when consumers may be wary of grocery stores.

Every week, Jepsen Produce curates a box of seasonal, delicious, and occasionally unique fruits and vegetables for Chicagoland families. Staples include spinach, carrots, apples, tomatoes, lemons, onions, oranges, and peppers; seasonal items have included mangoes, pineapples, and cherries; more unique add-on items have run the gamut from chanterelle mushrooms and dragon fruit to pomegranates and California Reaper peppers -- widely considered the world’s hottest chili pepper. Boxes also include a bunch of herbs -- rosemary, basil, thyme, parsley, and cilantro among them -- perfect for adding more fresh flavor to your favorite recipes.

The family-minded company also offers a Kids’ Box add-on filled with healthy treats for little ones. In the future, Jepsen Produce will be offering an all-organic box as well. Subscriptions will be offered on weekly and biweekly schedules.

Boxes are priced at $30 -- including delivery -- and brought to your front door in accordance with social distancing guidelines. Add-ons are available and change on a weekly basis. The company also offers pick-up on Saturdays from 10 AM - 1 PM at their Burr Ridge location.

Most of all, Lauren and Jason Jepsen pride themselves on their customer service -- responding to their needs and valuing their opinions. It is a local company by family, for families in this time of great uncertainty. Customer feedback has been exceedingly positive and is a reflection of these values.
