Juneteenth Event Planned In Naperville At Rotary Hill

The event will commemorate the emancipation of African Americans from slavery in the United States.

NAPERVILLE, IL — Juneteenth marks the emancipation of African Americans from slavery in the United States. An event to celebrate this milestone will be held in Naperville at Rotary Hill.

The Naperville Juneteenth event will take place at Rotary Hill, 443 Aurora Ave., Naperville and will kick off at 3:30 p.m. The event was organized by a group of students at Naperville Central High School and will also feature a "call to end mass incarceration, implement police reform and strengthen education about black history," according to Daily Herald.

Short for June 19th, Juneteenth is a holiday celebrating the emancipation of African Americans from slavery in the United States."Juneteenth today celebrates African-American freedom and achievement, while encouraging continuous self-development and respect for all cultures," according to Juneteenth.com in an explanation of the holiday.
