Kayak Flips On DuPage River; Both Men Safe: Naperville FD

Emergency crews were called after a kayak flipped and left one passenger stranded on an island.

NAPERVILLE, IL — Two men are safe after their kayak flipped on the DuPage River Sunday afternoon, leaving one man stranded on a nearby island.

Emergency crews were called to the scene just after 1:15 p.m. and arrived with a special rescue team. One of the men had swum to an island north of Hobson, where he became stranded. Swift currents forced the team to use a live bait rescue to pull the man from the river. Officials say the man has also lost his personal flotation device (PFD).

No injuries were reported, but firefighter are urging kayakers to wear PFDs and helmets and exercise caution while on the river.
