Lane Closures In Effect On Washington Street Bridge
The closures come after a Department of Transportation inspection revealed bridge deterioration that requires a lower weight limit.

NAPERVILLE, IL — Following a recent inspection by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), the Washington Street Bridge will have lane closures in effect starting Thursday. The inspection determined that the bridge was deteriorating and required a lower weight limit, which is prompting the lane closures.
Washington Street Bridge's weight limit had been 15 tons since 2016, when it was reduced to prevent damage to the decades-old bridge but is now reduced to eight tons. As a result, the Washington Street Bridge's inside northbound and outside southbound lanes will be closed to facilitate single-lane traffic on the bridge.
Aurora Avenue's eastbound inside lane will be converted to a left turn lane between Main and Webster and will be closed between Main and Washington. Washington's outside southbound lane will become a right turn lane between Jackson and Chicago.
