Lightning Strikes Dad, 33, Fishing On Whalon Lake: Cops

Police say a teen saw his dad get struck by lightning while fishing on the lake.

NAPERVILLE, IL — A 33-year-old father was rescued from Whalon Lake after he was struck by lightning while fishing on Labor Day afternoon. Emergency responders pulled the victim from the water roughly 15 feet from the shore and performed CPR as he was "pulseless and not breathing," according to a press release from Naperville Fire Department.

The victim reportedly showed had a pulse and was breathing by the time he was transported to Edward Hospital.

Around the same time, police say they got a phone call about a male with an injured leg who turned out to be the victim's son. Fire officials say the man's son hurt his leg while trying to get a jogger's attention to call 911.

The son was also taken to Edward Hospital with injuries that are not thought to be life threatening.
