Man Accused Of Stealing Car While Illegally Armed In Naperville: Cops

NAPERVILLE, IL — A Chicago man faces multiple felony charges after police say they found a Glock with an extended magazine on him after he stole a Dodge Durango in Naperville.

Frank Whitefield, Jr., 20, was charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and possession of burglary tools in connection with the Jan. 24 incident.

Police were called to the 1600 block of Westminster around 4:41 a.m. for a report of a stolen vehicle. As officers investigated the incident, they located the stolen car at a gas station on Route 59 near I-88.

Whitefield is accused of getting out of the car and fleeing on foot. Police arrested Whitefield shortly after and say they found a loaded Glock .45-caliber pistol equipped with an extended magazine and a laser.

"Once again, the Naperville Police Department has demonstrated their professionalism and dedication to public safety and the rule of law,” DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement.

Berlin added, "The crimes alleged in this case will not be tolerated in DuPage County and anyone suspected of such behavior will be quickly apprehended and find themselves facing serious charges which will be aggressively prosecuted."

Whitefield is currently being held on $250,000 bond in DuPage County Jail and is set to appear in court again Feb. 21.
