DuPage County Woman Charged With Murder In Boyfriend's Death
Police say the shooting took place after "an alleged act of physical abuse."
NAPERVILLE, IL — A DuPage County woman has been charged with first degree murder after she was accused of shooting her boyfriend of 8 years to death in the Steeple Run subdivision near the Lisle-Naperville border late Tuesday. April O. Turner, 36, is being held in DuPage County Jail on $500,000 bond.
Police say they were called to a home in the the 6s100 block of Lakewood Drive and found a man, later identified as Nicarro Laroy Drake, with a fatal gunshot wound. According to police, Turner grabbed a handgun from the closet "after an alleged act of physical abuse during a party at her home." Police say Turner fired the gun at Drake three times, hitting him once in the chest, before another woman wrestled the gun from her.
According to police, Turner then called 911 to report the shooting.

In a statement, DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said, "This case is yet another horrible example that domestic violence continues to be an extremely serious problem that demands our attention. The taking of another’s life however, as alleged in this case, is never acceptable and will be met with the full force of the law."
Turner is set to appear in court again on March 26.
