Man Sentenced in Connection to Naperville Drug Ring

Two other members are set to make court appearances later this month.

One of the seven people charged in a Naperville drug ring has been sentenced to jail.

Patrick Kortney, 33, of the 500 block of Kiowa Drive in Naperville, pleaded guilty to manufacture and delivery of cannabis more than 30 grams but less than 500, according to the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office website.

The Chicago Tribune reports that Judge Daniel P. Guerin sentenced Patrick to 75 days in jail and gave him credit for the 16 days he spent in jail following his arrest. He also received two years of probation.

The charges stem from a four-month investigation into a drug ring that police said was operated out of a Naperville apartment complex.

Others charged in the drug ring include:

  • Bernice Coleman, 53, of 400 E. Bailey in Naperville, has been charged with one count of calculated criminal drug conspiracy. A $1 million bond has been set. She must pay 10 percent of that bond to apply for her release.
  • Jerome Powell, 61, of 400 E. Bailey in Naperville, has also been charged with one count of calculated criminal drug conspiracy. A $1 million bond has also been set with 10 percent to apply.
  • Tretepfone Pryor, 21, of 400 E. Bailey in Naperville, has been charged with one count of delivery of marijuana. A $50,000 bond has been set with 10 percent to apply.
  • Antonio Ervin, 25, of 1387 S. Glen Circle in Aurora, has been charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. A $300,000 bond has been set with 10 percent to apply.
  • Paris Miller, 19, of 23504 W. Winston Avenue in Plainfield, has been charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. A $200,000 bond has been set with 10 percent to apply.
  • Mack Jones, 56, of 1426 S. 10th Avenue in Maywood, has been charged with one count of calculated criminal drug conspiracy.

Pryor in August 2014 was sentenced to 66 days in jail, after pleading guilty to a felony charge of the manufacture or delivery of more than 10 but not more than 30 grams of marijuana. Miller on Nov. 10 was sentenced to six months in jail and ordered to perform community service work, after being convicted of a felony charge of the manufacture or delivery of one but less than 15 grams of cocaine.

Ervin on Dec. 18 was sentenced to 10 years in prison, after being found guilty of the same charge as Miller. Powell was sentenced May 29 to 12 years in prison, on a felony charge of the manufacture or delivery of one but less than 14 grams of heroin.

Coleman and Jones face trial on charges that include calculated criminal drug conspiracy, a Class X felony which carries a mandatory sentence of six to 30 years in prison upon conviction. Jones is expected to return Sept. 11 to court, and Coleman on Sept. 24, jail records indicated.
