Naperville Attorney Set Bond At $ 850,000 For Naperville Man Charged Aggravated Domestic Battery

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert B. Berlin and Naperville Chief of Police Robert Marshall announced today that bond has been set for a Naperville man charged with Aggravated Domestic Battery (Class 2 Felony) in connection with the death of his wife. Alan Wang, 55 (d.o.b. 3/20/1964) of 1103 N. Mill Street, appeared at a bond hearing this morning in front of Judge Ann Celine O’Hallaren Walsh, who set bond at $850,000 with 10% to apply.

On March 8, 2020, at approximately 4:50 p.m., personnel from the Naperville Police and Fire Departments responded to a call at the couple’s residence regarding a female who was not breathing, later identified as Hongyan Yang, 35 (d.o.b. 6/10/1984). The victim was immediately taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead at 5:54 p.m. Following an investigation conducted by the Naperville Police Department into Yang’s death, it is alleged that in the evening hours of March 7, 2020, the defendant and his wife were in the couple’s bedroom when the defendant kicked the victim multiple times on her legs causing deep soft tissue hemorrhaging. The following day, a relative of the couple called 9-1-1 when it appeared that the victim stopped breathing.

“This case is a terrible reminder that domestic violence continues to be a serious problem that demands our attention,” Berlin said. “While it is generally believed that domestic violence cases are underreported, Federal authorities estimate that in the United States there are still more than five million incidents of domestic violence every year, with as many as one in four women becoming a victim of domestic violence. These numbers are more than alarming particularly when you consider not only the physical and emotional harm endured by the victim, but also the effect domestic violence has on families and the entire community. I would like to thank the Naperville Police Department for their work on this very sad case. I would also like to thank Assistant State’s Attorney Amanda Meindl for her efforts in securing charges against Mr. Wang.”

The investigation into Yang’s death continues.

Wang’s next court appearance is scheduled for April 6, 2020, in front of Judge O’Hallaren Walsh for arraignment.
