Naperville Cab Driver Charged With Sexual Assault: Authorities

Police say he sexually assaulted a female passenger after giving her a ride in 2017.

NAPERVILLE, IL -- A Naperville man was arrested Thursday for allegedly sexually assaulting a female passenger in 2017. Sandeep Arora, 44, of the 1300 block of Aurora Avenue, has been charged with felony counts of criminal sexual assault, aggravated criminal sexual assault, sexual abuse, and aggravated criminal sexual abuse in connection with the incident.

According to police, Arora drove the victim and a friend from an "establishment in Naperville" on July 9, 2017. Arora, reportedly dropped off the woman's friend and then continued to drive with the victim in the front seat.

Arora allegedly then sexually assaulted the woman, tearing her clothes and leaving bruises on her body. Authorities say Arora assaulted the womn a second time before she was able to escape the cab.

After an investigation by Naperville Police, a warrant was issued for Arora's arrest Wednesday.

DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said, "“It is alleged that this defendant, once alone with the victim in his taxi, sexually assaulted her to satisfy his sexual desires. These allegations are extremely disturbing and, if found guilty, Mr. Arora will find himself behind bars, unable to prey upon innocent women, for a significant amount of time."

Arora is set to appear in court again on Jan. 10.
