Naperville, DuPage County To Link Traffic Systems
The $4.5 million project aims to decrease traffic times and make it easier to manage accidents and other traffic problems.

NAPERVILLE, IL — Naperville has joined forces with DuPage County's traffic signal system in an effort to improve the flow of traffic and ease up congestion in the city. The DuPage Division of Transportation will add Naperville's traffic signals and cameras to its system for remote monitoring of road conditions and travel times.
Federal funding will support the majority of the $4.5 million project to merge the traffic systems. The project will involve some construction, which is slated to start in 2019.
Naperville Director of Transportation Bill Novack acknowledged the city's ongoing efforts to manage traffic. "Connecting with DuPage County's system is the next step towards our goal to allow real-time, system-wide remote programming and operation," Novack said in a news release.

The merger aims to shorten wait times and keep traffic moving steadily at Naperville's more than 150 traffic lights. Officials are hoping it will make accident response and management easier as well.
DuPage County Transportation Commission Chairman Don Puchalski said, "This partnership will allow an easier flow of traffic for motorists in DuPage County, and allow both DuPage County and Naperville to collaborate on traffic adjustments as needed, allowing for better coordination and synchronization to improve traffic flow."
