Naperville FD Responds To House Fire On Rock Spring Road

NAPERVILLE, Ill. — At 1130 hours this morning, Naperville’s Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) received a 911 call from the resident (neighbor) reporting a fire involving a single-family home. A general alarm was dispatched to the reported structure fire. A general alarm assignment consists of three engines, two ladder trucks, one squad, two ambulances, two shift commanders and two rescue vehicles.

Within three minutes of the initial 911 call, Truck 5 arrived on scene and had smoke coming from the west side of the house. They established command, started investigating, and Truck 5 deployed a hoseline to extinguish the fire on the exterior of the house. All residents were evacuated prior to arrival of the first fire units.

Fire was fully extinguished within fourteen minutes of the initial 911 call. Overhaul was performed on the exterior of the house, along with smoke removal, and extinguishment of any hidden fire. It was determined by on scene fire investigators, that the fire was due to a compost bin that was too close to the structure. The strong winds may have contributed to the compost starting to smolder.

The Naperville Fire Department was assisted on the scene by the Naperville Police Department. The Transportation, Engineering, and Development (TED) was contacted, but not requested to the scene. There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians.
