Naperville Man Convicted In Stabbing Of Wife In 2019

NAPERVILLE, IL — A Naperville man has been found guilty in the 2019 stabbing of his wife. Patrick O'Brien, 62, was convicted Wednesday of attempted first degree murder and aggravated domestic battery.

Police were called to the 2200 block of Popple Court in Naperville on Dec. 21, 2019 for a report of a stabbing. Prosecutors say that O'Brien and his wife had been separated and he had come back to the house to retrieve some possessions.

O'Brien then "grabbed a large kitchen knife and pointed it at [his wife,]" a news release from the State's Attorney's Office of Will County said.

When she tried to flee to a neighbor's house, O'Brien followed her, stabbing her in the chest before stabbing his own torso.

The surveillance camera at the neighbor's house recorded the stabbing.

O'Brien is set to appear in court Nov. 2 for a sentencing hearing.
