Naperville Park District invites the community to the reopening celebration for the newly renovated playground at Commissioners Park, located at 3704 111th Street, at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 14. Families, friends and neighbors can view or participate in a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony, enjoy refreshments and giveaways, and explore the new play equipment. Please note that for this event, the most convenient parking is located in the parking lot at the 248th Avenue park entrance just south of 111th Street.

As part of the celebration, Naperville Park District will recognize representatives from the Mainstreet Organization of REALTORS and the National Organization of REALTORS for a Placemaking Grant of $15,293 that supported the playground renovation. The grant provided funding for 2 picnic tables, a game table, 7 park benches, a bike rack and a bee spring toy. Additionally, volunteers from Century 21 Affiliated of Naperville and other groups planted pollinator plants earlier this summer to enhance the landscape beds at the playground.

“We are grateful for the Placemaking Grant that helps make the playground an inviting place for the community,” said Executive Director Ray McGury. “A special thanks to Sarah Mara, REALTOR, from Century 21 Affiliated of Naperville, who reached out to the Park District to learn about our upcoming projects and applied for the grant on our behalf, all during the height of the pandemic.”

The play equipment includes swings, stand-alone pieces and separate play structures for children ages 2-5 and 5-12.

In the event of inclement weather, the playground celebration will be rescheduled for 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 15.  Residents can check the Cancellations and Closures tab for the latest updates at http://www.napervilleparks.org/cancellations.
