The Naperville Park District’s Board of Park Commissioners invited community representatives seeking to bring Ribfest back to Naperville in June 2022 to present their concept for a two-day event at the park board meeting held on Thursday, Aug. 26.

After hearing a proposal that would host the event at the Park District’s Frontier Sports Complex located on Naperville’s south side, board members expressed concern that the regional event conflicted with the Park District’s mission to provide “recreation and park experiences that promote healthy lives, healthy minds and a healthy community.” The event would displace both organized and drop-in facility use and result in a loss of revenue during its busiest season, while requiring several weeks’ worth of turf recovery.

Ultimately, the board declined to further consider the proposal.
