Naperville Police Bring 'Very Tense' Situation To Non-Violent End
Officers were able to safely apprehend a man who was found standing on a Route 59 bridge overlooking Interstate 88.
NAPERVILLE, IL — Naperville Police Department officials are crediting the work of officers for bringing a tense situation to a non-violent ending after authorities received reports of a man standing on a bridge on Route 59 looking down at Interstate 88 Monday night, officials said Tuesday.
Officers approached the man about 8:15 p.m. Monday to do a wellness check. The man then pulled a knife and told officers to keep their distance, police said. Officers from the department spent the next hour attempting to help the man by talking to him.
Both Route 59 and I-88 were closed for the entire time, police said.
