Illinois City Ranked As Safest In U.S. For Trick-Or-Treating

NAPERVILLE, IL — With Halloween fast approaching, a recent study ranked Naperville as the safest city in the United States for trick-or-treating.

The Safest Cities for Trick-or-Treating study, conducted by ChamberofCommerce.org, compared 300 cities with populations of 100,000 or more residents. The following metrics were measured for each city:

  • Number of law enforcement employees
  • Number of registered sex offenders
  • Pedestrian fatalities
  • Property crime
  • Violent crime

  5. Cary, NC

The study analyzed data from the U.S. Census Bureau, FBI National Sex Offender Registry, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS), 2020 Annual Report File (ARF) and the FBI Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program.

  • Number of law enforcement employees: 16.8 per 10,000 people
  • Number of registered sex offenders: 2.1 per 10,000 people
  • Pedestrian fatalities: .11 per 10,000 people
  • Property crime: 47.4 per 10,000 people
  • Violent crime: 3.6 per 10,000 people

ChamberofCommerce.org wrote, "Naperville retains the charm and security of a tight-knit community with few registered sex offenders, an excellent record of property crime (47.4 incidents per 10,000), and only 53 incidents of violent crime reported across the whole city in the past year."
