Naperville Shops Fined For Selling Minors Cigarettes, Vape Juice

Three stores were caught selling cigarettes or vape products to minors in Naperville.

NAPERVILLE, IL --- Three e-cigarette stores in Naperville are facing fines after they were reportedly caught selling items to customers who were under the legal age limit to purchase vape products or cigarettes. Vape N Tobacco, Vape 58, and Stogies pleaded guilty to selling to minors after a routine compliance check of roughly 70 shops by the city's liquor commission, Chicago Tribune reports.

Officials say employees at at Vape 58 sold e-cigarette juice to minors on two separate occasions, which led to a total of $1,500 in fines. Vape N Tobacco and Stogies must each pay a fine of $500 for allowing a minor who had been hired by the Naperville Police Department to purchase cigarettes.

The recent fines and compliance crackdown come after the city upped the legal age to buy tobacco and vape products from 18 to 21. The ongoing enforcement is a nationwide trend as e-cigarette stores throughout the country have become the focus of widespread criticism for selling products that many believe encourage use by teens.
