NAPERVILLE, IL — A Naperville teacher has been chosen as a finalist for the 2023 Golden Apple Awards for Excellence in Teaching.

Brian Horner, who teaches fourth and fifth grade at Meadow Glens Elementary School, aims to craft a "socially conscious classroom that reflects the background of his students and aims to find common beliefs amongst them to bring them together," a news release from Golden Apple Foundation said. Horner was also an attendee at the Illinois Gifted Conference.

Horner is among 30 finalists for the awards, which are given out annually to recognize teachers who have made a significant difference in the lives of their students. Winners are notified in spring with a surprise ceremony. They receive a sabbatical, $5,000 in cash and are honored as Fellows of the Golden Apple Academy of Educators.
