Naperville Woman Injured In Starved Rock Fall Upgraded to Fair Condition
Woman's 18-year-old friends cited with misdemeanors for entering restricted area at state park, authorities said.

The young Naperville woman who fell more than 20 down a canyon at an Illinois state park has been upgraded from critical to fair condition, the Daily Herald reported.
The 19-year-old woman, identified as Danielle Pirami-Morin, and two other individuals were hiking in Wildcat Canyon at Starved Rock State Park when she fell around 12:25 p.m. Sunday.
Authorities said that Pirami-Morin was hiking with two 18-year-old friends, John Shestri, of Aurora, and Emily Blair, of Naperville, in an area that was off limits to park visitors.

Pirami-Morin was “conscious and alert” when treated by Utica paramedics at the scene. She was brought across the Illinois River by the Ottawa River Rescue Squad. She was eventually airlifted from Utica to OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford.
Trails in the state park are marked by wooden railings. Leaving the marked trails for rappelling, hiking and rock climbing is forbidden, according to park rules.

Illinois Department of Natural Resources spokesman Chris Johnson said the rules are in place for visitor safety.
“Some of those falls can be pretty extreme,” Young told the paper.
Shetri and Blair were cited for misdemeanor unlawful entry into a restricted area and fined $120, said Sgt. Robert Frazier with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources Conservation Police.
The injured Pirami-Morin may face fines as well, the Daily Herald said.
Frazier said that visitors to the park are injured a couple of times of year in canyon falls.
