Nokia Axes 250 Jobs, Anticipates More Cuts In Naperville

The company could lay off another 250 Naperville workers before the end of 2018.

NAPERVILLE, IL — Nokia Networks is planning to make some drastic cuts, a move which began with laying off 250 employees at its Naperville location on Sept. 7. According to Crain's Chicago, the company is likely to lay off 250 more workers before the end of 2018.

Representatives for Nokia told Crain's that the layoffs were part of "a global synergy and transformation program" that started when the company acquired the Naperville-based Alcatel-Lucent in 2016 and is expected to last until the end of the year.

The Nokia spokesperson did not say how many jobs were cut or would be cut, but acknowledged "reduced headcount in Illinois," Crain's reports.
