Obituary: Robert S. “Bob” Hray

A retired Journeyman Ironworker and lifelong Lockport/Joliet resident passes away at age 75.

Obituary was published and funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home and Crematory​.

Robert S. “Bob” Hray

Age 75, of Joliet, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at the Lightways Hospice Home surrounded by the love of his family.

Bob was born on November 18, 1950, to John and Marie (Szymendera) Hray. He graduated from Lockport Township High School, Class of 1968. He was a lifelong Lockport/Joliet resident.

Bob worked as a Journeyman Ironworker and an Apprenticeship Instructor with Local 444 until his retirement in 2010.He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and classic cars. Bob was known to have a green thumb and loved to be outside gardening. He was a good cook and enjoyed baking.

Bob is survived by his loving wife, Alice (nee Bowman); two children, Kevin (Jennifer) Hray and Michele (Donald) Beck; four step-children, Lisa (John Pieranunzi) Pocius, Jon Paul Pocius, Sara (Sam Hulick) Pocius, and Renee (Mike) Buhrow; eleven grandchildren, Nathan Beck, Taylor Beck, Emma Hray, Samantha Hray, Mia Hess, Sofia Pieranunzi, Johnny Pieranunzi, Sage Pocius, Audrey Pocius, Ethan Buhrow, and Linnea Buhrow; two brothers, Dennis (Joy Schank) Hray and Richard Hray; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Carol (Jim) Benton.

A Memorial Gathering for Robert Hray will be held on Monday, April 6, 2026, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. Joliet, IL., from 4:00 p.m. until the time of Memorial Service at 6:00 p.m. Per Robert’s request, cremation rites have been accorded.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bob’s name can be made to Lightways Hospice of Joliet.
