Three Naperville Park District police officers will participate in the 2015 Torch Run for Special Olympics Illinois, running from Centennial Beach to North Central College on Sunday, June 7 at 9:15 a.m.

The Naperville segment is part of a statewide event to raise funds and to honor the Special Olympics athletes who will compete in the annual Summer Games in Normal, Illinois the weekend of June 12-14.

According to the Special Olympics Illinois website, the Law Enforcement Torch Run is the largest fundraiser for the organization, raising nearly $28 million over the past 27 years.

In addition to participating in the run, Naperville Park District police are selling Special Olympics Torch Run merchandise throughout the summer. Items for sale include t-shirts, hats, commemorative lapel pins, and raffle tickets for a 2015 Harley Davidson Street Glide Motorcycle, five big-screen, high-definition televisions and a custom 2015 Jeep Wrangler. All funds raised go directly to helping the special athletes in their competitive efforts.

Those interested in purchasing an item or donating to help Special Olympics may do so by contacting Naperville Park District Police Chief, Carl Schnibben at 630-848-5049 or at cschnibben@napervilleparks.org.
