Renaissance Faire Comes To DuPage Children's Museum

Castles, catapults, blacksmiths, and dragons will enchant kids at the Renaissance-themed event Saturday.

NAPERVILLE, IL — If your kids have a case of spring fever, why not take them to Renaissance England? The DuPage Children's Museum will be alight with famous inventors, blacksmiths, and marionette dragons for its Renaissance Faire event Saturday. And yes, visitors are encouraged to come in their own Renaissance regalia.

Performers and artisans from the Bristol Renaissance Faire will be on hand to perform catapult launches and show live blacksmith demonstrations to give kids a feel for what life was like during the Renaissance period. They'll also hear the stories of how such well-known figures as Leonardo DaVinci, Michelangeo, and Galileo shaped the era and history.

Aspiring knights and princesses can explore a castle, view "upside down art," and hear a fairytale story.

A large marionette dragon will wander the faire during "The Last Dragon, A Heroic Puppet Comedy," performed by the Jabberwocky Marionettes. The performance shares the tale of hero who journeys to the Land of Elves on a quest to find the world's last remaining dragon.

Admission to the museum and event is $12 for adults and children ages 1 and over. The fee for senior citizens is $10. Children under 1 and museum members get in for free.
