Rep. Underwood To Speak At Juneteenth Celebration On Rotary Hill
Enjoy live music, food tastings and more at this free June 17 event commemorating the end of slavery in the United States.

NAPERVILLE, IL — Rep. Lauren Underwood (D, IL-14) will visit Naperville on June 17 to serve as the keynote speaker for the city's 2023 Juneteenth Celebration. The free event, which features music and food, will be held at Rotary Hill to commemorate the emancipation of African Americans from slavery in the United States.
Attendees can hear speakers perform spoken word poetry and share educational information about Juneteenth and Black history, before dancing along to live music from Divine Sound Gospel Choir and Harmony and Soul. Vendors will be on hand to offer food and other items for purchase.
Mandy’s Soul Food Kitchen and 2 Twisted Chefs will serve up samplings of their popular dishes.

Short for June 19th, Juneteenth is a holiday celebrating the emancipation of African Americans from slavery in the United States."Juneteenth today celebrates African-American freedom and achievement, while encouraging continuous self-development and respect for all cultures," according to Juneteenth.com in an explanation of the holiday.
