Schmaltz Deli Celebrates 10 years

Jewish Deli Brings 10 years of Overstuffed Sandwiches, Bagels and Latkes to Western Suburbs

Not quite old enough for a Bar Mitzvah, Schmaltz Deli in Naperville is celebrating its 10-year anniversary in November. The popular Jewish deli, bagel bakery and sandwich joint is celebrating all month with daily specials, prizes and souvenir cups to mark the occasion.

Schmaltz is well-known in the western suburbs for its overstuffed corned beef and pastrami sandwiches served with homemade bagel chips, and lively deli atmosphere, where your order is sent down a zip cord to the sandwich makers. Popular items like bagels, matzo ball soup, Schmacon™, latkes and knishes are made in house. The deli carries hard to find items like fresh rugelach, braided Challah bread, Nova lox, and Dr. Brown’s soda. As any true deli does, Schmaltz sells all of its meats, cheeses and sides by the pound. In addition, customers can ship any of its items across the country through its sister Web site, schmaltzonline.com.

Founded in 2004, the deli quickly became a local favorite, being featured on ABC 7’s The Hungry Hound and on WGN’s Chicago’s Best, and frequently appeared on “Best Of” lists in a variety of publications, including The Chicago Tribune and Naperville Magazine.

“When we opened in 2004, we were hoping to serve the very best Jewish deli sandwiches in the area. If we’ve been here for 10 years, we must be doing something right,” kvells Howard Bender , the deli’s owner.

“We are so grateful for the support of our customers,” said Bender. “They’re the ones who tell their friends about us, bring our sandwich platters to parties and meetings, and keep coming back week after week. We can’t wait for the next 10 years.”
