Seniors Alone Non Profit Wins 2020 Business Ledger Award
Seniors Alone Guardianship & Advocacy Services (SAGAS), www.SeniorsAlone.org , has received a 2020 Award for Business Excellence from the Daily Herald Business Ledger newspaper. The award honors the best Chicago suburban nonprofits and businesses with a significant presence in the Ledger’s readership area, which includes DuPage, Fox Valley, Northwest Cook, Lake, West Cook, Southwest Cook and Will Counties.
SAGAS was one of 21 nonprofits and businesses honored this year. Honorees are chosen based on a combination of business achievement, growth and community involvement.

Founded by board-certified patient advocate Teri Dreher, RN, CCM, Seniors Alone advocates for seniors and adults with disabilities who might otherwise fall through the cracks. SAGAS was created last fall after Dreher, founder of NShore Patient Advocates (www.northshorern.com), recognized the need for a health advocacy for senior “orphans”—the elderly aging alone on a limited budget. She notes, “We are proud to receive this award in recognition of the value our young organization is already providing to the senior community.”
Their team of nurses, social workers, care managers, attorneys and guardians work with healthcare providers, courts and long-term care resources to provide high-quality care to this often-overlooked population. The range of services includes coordinating care for medically-complex clients, advocating for hospitalized clients, creating care plans and helping stable seniors remain independent, serving as healthcare power of attorney, and providing guardianship services when provided by the courts.

According to Dreher, “We hope this award will help bolster awareness of SAGAS so we can reach an even greater number of this vulnerable population. As a 501(c)(3) organization, we provide services on a sliding scale based on a client’s ability to pay. As sponsors and donations increase, we aim to provide services at no cost to the neediest clientele. We are humbled to receive the 2020 Business Ledger Award and we hope this recognition serves as another step in helping us to reach our ultimate goal of ensuring that even the neediest of our seniors receive top-notch care.”
