Suburban Teams Fare Well at State Cheer Competition

Joliet West won the large team division and Buffalo Grove took the state title in the co-ed division. Find out how other teams fared.

High school cheerleading teams from across the suburbs were celebrating Saturday night following this year’s state competition.

The Buffalo Grove co-ed cheer team captured their third state title in four years Saturday as they competed against dozens of other team in front of a packed arena at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum in Bloomington, the Daily Herald reports. The cheer team was greeted with applause when returning home Saturday night.


The Joliet West cheerleading squad won the school’s first state trophy, beating Providence Catholic to win the large team division, the Joliet Herald News reports. The team will be honored during a ceremony at noon on Sunday at the auditorium at the west campus.


Oak Forest won the state title in the medium division while Wilmington High School won in the small team division.
