Police say they stopped Yusuf Syed, 21, for failing to signal, then later found a disassembled gun in his hotel room.
NAPERVILLE, IL — A Naperville man is facing felony gun charges after a routine traffic stop led officers to find a gun in his hotel room, according to police. Yusuf Syed, 21, of the 25 W 200 block of Concord, was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and conspiracy — aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, in connection with the March 1 incident.
Syed was stopped near the intersection of Naper Boulevard and Ridgeland Avenue around 6:45 p.m. for failing to use a turn signal, according to police. Police say they found a "small amount" of cannabis during the investigation, per a news release from Naperville Police Department spokesperson Michaus Williams.
Police ultimately got consent to search Syed's motel room, where they say they found a P80 9 mm handgun, Williams told Patch. According to DuPage County Jail records, Syed did not possess a Firearm Owner's Identification (FOID) card for the gun.
