1 Dead In I-80 Shooting In New Lenox: Illinois State Police

The victim of a shooting at the entrance to I-355 in New Lenox was taken to an area hospital, where they were pronounced dead, police said.

NEW LENOX, IL — The person shot on I-80 west near New Lenox Monday evening has died of their injuries, Illinois State Police said.

Illinois State Police were called at 5:30 p.m. to the I-80 west entrance to I-355 for an expressway shooting.

One person was taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries and later pronounced dead, state police said.

State police provided a suspect description, and New Lenox police found and took one person into custody, New Lenox Mayor Tim Baldermann told Patch. The arrestee was turned over to Illinois State Police, Baldermann said.

Liberty Junior High was placed on lockdown while the search was underway, Baldermann said. Parent-teacher conferences were taking place at the time, he said.

I-80 west was shut down at LaGrange Road, but reopened as of 6:26 p.m., police said.
