134 Knights Join Lincoln-Way Central National Honor Society

The students were inducted last week.

Lincoln-Way Central National Honor Society (NHS) welcomed 134 new members in their induction ceremony on Thursday, Oct. 16, at the Central Fine Arts Center, New Lenox.

Nicholas Sabatini, NHS vice-president, began the program by leading the Pledge of Allegiance and welcomed the large crowd of parents, family members, and friends to the prestigious ceremony. The National Anthem was sung by NHS member Jade Rector.

Currently there are 121 National Honor Society members. In addition to Sabatini, NHS officers are: Emily Fitzpatrick, president; Delaney Shepherd is treasurer; and Madeline McLaughlin is secretary.

“I would like to offer my sincere congratulations to all of our inductees. This is a special night for us at Lincoln-Way Central because we have the opportunity to honor some of our finest students– the true leaders of our school. In order to be chosen to become a member of the National Honor Society, your application was evaluated on the basis of four areas: scholarship, leadership, service, and character. I cannot think of a better group of young men and women who exemplify these characteristics,” said principal Dr. Steve Provis.

The Lincoln-Way High Schools traditionally recognize each year a community member and faculty member for their service and dedication to the community and schools.

This year Central NHS students honored Mr. Jay Johnson, community member and retired principal for Lincoln-Way Central High School; and Lincoln-Way Central faculty member, Lisa Parker.

Superintendent Dr. R. Scott Tingley gave the keynote address for the ceremony. He spoke to the values of the four main principals of acceptance into the National Honor Society: scholarship, leadership, service, and character.

“Enthusiasm for scholarship, promote leadership as setting the correct path for others to follow, service is an act of helpful activity, and character is doing what is right, those are all the responsibilities of being a member of NHS. I commend your commitment to your studies, and I thank you for your caring. I admire you for doing what is right and wish you continued success in developing your character,” Superintendent Tingley told the inductees.
