Always With Us

Devotion about how God is always with us, even in our darkest times.

‘…And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.’ ~ Matthew 28:20b

Outside my window, spring struggles to break free of winter’s icy grasp. The leafless trees and bare ground cry out for the sun’s warmth upon them so that they can once again look full of life. The creatures await the cover of foliage to hide their activities from predators in the area.

Our lives are sometimes very much like this time of year. We yearn to break free of our burdens or be healed of our illnesses that plague us daily. We often feel lost and alone in the day-to-day activities in which we participate. It is for the love and peace of our Heavenly Father that we eagerly await a new sense of hope and healing in this broken world in which we live.

God has told us through the vision seen by John that He “is with us always, to the end of the age.” What wonderful news this is to us to know that, even when the world sees us as being lost and alone, we really aren’t. We are like the earth just before spring, when what looks to be brown and empty really has new life springing up in the form of the first bulbs breaking through the ground, although still slightly hidden by the fallen leaves of autumn. God is always beside us. We just have to look for the signs of His presence - be it a friend that happens to call, a smile from a stranger, or the prayers lifted up on behalf of our needs by others. Remember, God is with us always.

Heavenly Father,

Thank you for never leaving us, for always being there for us, even in our darkest times. Help us to feel Your presence with us and around us always. Amen.
