American Legion Post 1977 Blood Donation Drive continues December 19th

When Members of the American Legion Post 1977 learned people in the New Lenox community were interested in donating blood after Hurricane Helene, they discovered there wasn't a regularly scheduled donation event in New Lenox. They immediately decided they wanted to help and contacted Red Cross representatives offering to host a drive. They never expected they would be asked to hold it 12 days later on October 27th. When the Post opened its doors that morning success was in the hands of the community, and they showed up in a big way. The drive met and exceeded the goal reaching 150% of the target.

The seasons may change, but the need for blood stays the same! Donating Whole Blood or Power Red is a great time to give back to hospital patients. Eligible donors with types O, B negative or A negative blood are encouraged to make a Power Red donation at this blood drive. Power Red donors give a concentrated dose of red blood cells during a single donation, allowing them to maximize their impact.

The next blood donation drive is scheduled for Thursday, December 19th, from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the New Lenox American Legion Post. The success of the first drive inspired everyone to set their sights higher and a new donation goal, was set at nearly three times higher than the first drive. The blood drive will continue during 2025 with the Red Cross returning every 8 weeks for another donation day.
