American Legion Post 1977 increases Veterans Assistance Hours

Veterans Service Officers available later in locally during the evening hours to accommodate working Vets.

Since last fall the New Lenox American Legion Post has hosted a Veteran Service Officer (VSO) from the Veterans Assistance Center of Will County twice a month. A VSO is accredited by the U.S. Veterans Administration to represent individuals in filing for federal VA benefits. A VSO can answer general questions about benefits, determine what benefits eligibility a specific veteran and file paperwork to claim their benefits. The services of the VSO are free, the Veteran will never be charged.

Effective April 9th, 2025 a VSO will be available at the New Lenox American Legion Post 1977 on the second and fourth Wednesday of every month from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. You do not need an appointment, and service is provided on a first come first served basis. You do not have to be a member of the American Legion to use this service, all Veterans are welcome.

Thomas J. Hartung, American Legion Post 1977 is located at 14414 Ford, New Lenox, IL 60451 and is the "local Post" for Veterans in New Lenox, Frankfort and Mokena. Membership is open to a Veterans from anywhere.
