NEW LENOX, IL — Gougar Road was closed for nearly 12 hours Tuesday, after a semi hauling a mayonnaise shipment tipped, New Lenox police said.
The semi was southbound near Ellis at 12:45 a.m. Tuesday, when it drifted off the roadway. Upon driver correction, the semi flipped over to its side, "spewing plastic containers of mayonnaise," police said.
Photos from the scene shared on social media show pallets of mayo on the road shoulder as agencies worked to clean up the scene. Workers loaded the contents in the trailer onto pallets, then loaded those into an empty trailer, said New Lenox Police Chief Micah Nuesse.
A dumpster was used for all the items that were ejected from the trailer. Multiple tow trucks to upright the semi and trailer.
Gougar Road was closed from the time of the accident until approximately 12:25 p.m., New Lenox Police Chief Micah Nuesse said.
