NEW LENOX, IL — A brush fire outside Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox Tuesday afternoon triggered smoke alarms and evacuated two buildings on the campus, officials said.
The fire began outside the Serenity Garden about 4 p.m., said Debra Robbins, director of marketing and communications for Silver Cross Hospital.
Pavilions A and B were evacuated as a precaution, said New Lenox Fire Protection District Public Information Officer Marisa Tomich.
There were no injuries and no danger to patients and staff, Robbins said.
The shrubs near the west end by the stairwell sustained damage, along with a section of the fence in that area. The hospital will assess those fully for replacement and repair.
The New Lenox Fire Department responded promptly and remained on hand as of 5 p.m. to ensure the fire didn't reignite due to the breeze and dry weather conditions, Robbins said.
