WILL COUNTY — The Will County Sheriff's Office is warning residents—especially senior citizens—to be on alert for individuals operating door-to-door scams throughout the area.
The organized theft crews often pose as landscapers, tree trimmers, driveway sealers, roofers, or home repair contractors.
"Their goal is to gain your trust and, in many cases, gain access to your property or home," the sheriff's office warns.
A common tactic involves one person engaging the homeowner in conversation outside or inside the residence while an accomplice quietly enters through another door to steal cash, jewelry, medications, or other valuables.
The sheriff's office encourages residents to check in with elderly family members, friends, and neighbors and share the warning, as it could help prevent them from becoming a victim.
If you observe suspicious individuals going door-to-door or believe someone is attempting to scam you, contact the Will County Sheriff's Office immediately. If a crime is in progress or you feel threatened, call 911.
The non-emergency line can be reached at (815)727-8575.
