NEW LENOX, IL — A cash box believed to have been taken from gaming machines in a New Lenox bar was found tossed on the road after a car fled from police, according to police reports.
Police were patrolling in the area of Laraway and Nelson roads at 4 a.m. July 2, when they saw two cars being driven erratically. As police approached in a squad car, one of the vehicles turned around, going the wrong way in the eastbound lane of Laraway Road, according to police reports.
The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but it fled at a high rate of speed.
Police then returned to the area of Laraway Road and Nelson Road, and found a cash box in the roadway. The officer checked several nearby businesses for signs of a burglary and located broken glass in the front of Comise’s Bar and Grill.
Several gaming machines inside were damaged and the cash boxes containing more than $60,400 were removed, police said.
The incident is under review for assignment or case closure.
