Will Co. Sheriff Ramps Up Speed Enforcement Patrols In July

Expect to see more patrols for speeding. Get caught speeding July 7–August 1, expect a ticket, Will County Sheriff's Office says.

| Updated

WILL COUNTY — The Will County Sheriff's Office is partnering with the Illinois Department of Transportation, Illinois State Police and more than 200 local law enforcement agencies to step up traffic safety efforts across the state to reduce speeding. Throughout the month of July, drivers can expect increased patrols looking for speeding, as well as other traffic violations.

"Our roads are shared spaces and keeping them safe is a shared responsibility. When drivers choose to speed, they aren't just endangering themselves, they are jeopardizing the safety of our families, neighbors, and children," said Traffic Lieutenant Denny. "Safe driving isn't about how fast you can get somewhere; it is about making sure everyone gets home safely."

Speeding creates unnecessary risks for all motorists, reducing the driver's ability to steer safely around other vehicles, hazardous objects, or unexpected curves.

During the speed limit enforcement campaign, officers will intensify enforcement of posted speed limits. Offenders will be stopped and ticketed, especially on county roadways, where many speed-related crashes occur.

Drivers can expect a ticket from Will County Sheriff's deputies if they are spotted speeding. The stepped-up patrols will be seen throughout the county and the state July 7 through August 1.

The speed enforcement effort is part of the "Speeding Catches Up With You" campaign and is made possible by federal highway safety funds administered by IDOT. It also supports IDOT's broader "It's Not a Game" social media campaign.
