In Memoriam: Beloved Dad, Poppa 'Could Brighten Anyone's Day,' Was Proud Top Earner For St. Baldrick's Cause

Daniel Kida, 76, died Aug. 21. He was known for his "love of music and concert, his sharp and sarcastic wit and wonderful sense of humor."

NEW LENOX, IL — Daniel Kida, age 76, of Joliet and most recently of New Lenox, passed away peacefully on Aug. 21, 2026, at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox. A proud retired United States Air Force veteran, Daniel dedicated a portion of his life to serving his country and was honored to carry that experience with him throughout his life. Even after his service, Daniel continued to help veterans and ensure they were cared for to the best of their abilities, family said in his obituary.

Born on December 25, 1949, Daniel was the beloved son of the late Frank and Bernice (née Potempa) Kida. Christmas Day held a special significance for Daniel and his family, as it marked not only the holiday season but also the day they welcomed him into the world.

After retiring from the Air Force, he continued to make his home in Chicago, Illinois and worked as a dedicated and highly awarded Volkswagen Mechanic. His biggest accomplishment was being a dedicated "Poppa" to his beautiful grandchildren. It was one of his biggest joys in life, spending time with his grandkids.

Daniel will be remembered and deeply missed by his loving children; Daniel J. Kida of Minooka, Illinois and Alice Ridley (Christopher Soltys) of Crete, Illinois along with his grandchildren; Aries Kemp, Eva Kida, Imagin Kemp, Lily Soltys, and Avery Soltys. His memory will also be cherished by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched throughout the years.

Those who knew Daniel will remember him for his love of music and concert, his sharp and sarcastic wit and wonderful sense of humor. He could brighten anyone's day. He was dedicated to the fight against childhood cancer and spent tireless hours dedicated to raising money toward St. Baldrick's. Proudly every year he was top earner for the cause in his area.

Please remember Daniel for the life he shared with everyone around him and for the memories created throughout his 76 years. Though he will be greatly missed, his memory will live on in the hearts of his children, grandchildren, family, and friends.

In accordance with Daniel's wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will have the opportunity to come together to honor Daniel's life and share the memories that made him special.
