Dr. Gamagami joined the medical staff of Silver Cross in 2005 and was a pioneer in bringing minimally invasive robotic surgery to the hospital in 2012. In early 2025, he reached 5,000 cases performed at Silver Cross, and just a year-and-a-half later, he's now at 6,000 cases.

"Dr. Gamagami's achievement reflects decades of dedication to advancing surgical innovation while delivering exceptional care and outcomes for patients throughout the region," said Michael Mutterer, RN, MA, LCPC, CADC, LNHA, President and Chief Executive Officer of Silver Cross Hospital. "And while today's celebration is all about an incredible number of robotic surgeries, equally important are the exceptional outcomes that Dr. Gamagami achieves."

"This milestone is truly humbling," said Dr. Gamagami. "I'm incredibly thankful and honored to have earned the trust of so many patients over the years. Every patient represents a unique journey, and I'm privileged to be part of their healthcare experience. Reaching 6,000 robotic surgeries is not just a personal accomplishment, but a testament to the collaboration, expertise and commitment of an outstanding healthcare team."

Dr. Gamagami also credits Silver Cross leadership and clinical staff for helping establish the hospital as a regional leader in robotic-assisted surgery.

"I'm deeply grateful to Michael Mutterer, President and CEO of Silver Cross Hospital, and Marybeth Antone, Vice President of Clinical Operations, for their continued support and vision in advancing robotic, minimally invasive surgery in Southwest Chicagoland," he said. "Their commitment to innovation has helped position Silver Cross as one of the premier destinations for robotic surgery and high-quality patient care. In fact, the hospital has been ranked number one in Illinois for surgical care by Healthgrades since 2024, solidifying its commitment to excellence in patient care."

Today, the hospital has six da Vinci robots, including two da Vinci 5's – the very latest in robotic-assisted surgery technology – and offers a wide range of procedures including general surgery, colorectal surgery, urology, gynecology, urogynecology, lung, orthopedics and more.

As a key member of the Midwest Institute for Robotic Surgery, Dr. Gamagami works alongside a multidisciplinary team of highly skilled robotic surgeons, nurses and operating room support staff; together, they provide leading-edge surgical options designed to reduce pain, minimize recovery time and improve patient outcomes.

"Dr. Gamagami's 6,000th robotic surgery is an extraordinary achievement and a reflection of his unwavering commitment to excellence, innovation and compassionate patient care," Mutterer added. "For years, Dr. Gamagami has helped elevate Silver Cross as a destination for advanced robotic surgery, transforming the lives of thousands of patients and mentoring the next generation of surgical leaders. We congratulate him on this remarkable milestone and thank him for his invaluable contributions to our hospital, our patients and the communities we serve."

Silver Cross Hospital remains one of the Midwest's highest-volume robotic surgery centers and continues to invest in advanced technologies and clinical expertise that enhance patient care. Through the Midwest Institute for Robotic Surgery, patients have access to a comprehensive team of specialists utilizing the latest robotic-assisted techniques to treat a wide range of conditions.

"This milestone strengthens our commitment to pushing the boundaries of surgical innovation," Dr. Gamagami added. "Most importantly, it reinforces our mission to provide patients with the safest, most effective treatment options available and help them achieve the best possible quality of life."

Silver Cross Invests $8.5 Million in OR Transformation

With enhanced patient care and experience at its core, Silver Cross recently transformed all 11 operating rooms with an $8.5 million upgrade featuring state-of-the-art technology designed to enhance surgical precision, improve workflow efficiency and elevate the patient experience.

At the heart of the project was the installation of advanced Steris equipment designed to elevate both the surgical environment and the care experience.

Upgraded LED surgical lighting dramatically reduces shadowing and enhances visibility during deep or complex procedures. New 4K monitors provide exceptional clarity for robotic and laparoscopic cases, giving surgeons sharper, more detailed imaging than ever before.

The renovated operating rooms also feature integrated technology that allows surgeons to capture and upload images directly into patients' electronic medical records in real time. The systems interface with the daily surgical schedule, reducing manual data entry and helping teams work more efficiently.

These improvements streamline clinical workflows while enhancing accuracy, communication and overall quality of care.
