NEW LENOX, IL — A Verizon store in New Lenox was targeted in an armed robbery Saturday morning, police said.
Three male suspects entered the store at 511 E. Lincoln Hwy just before 10:30 a.m., while a driver waited outside. Two of the suspects then flashed guns and demanded phones, police said.
They took 74 phones and fled the area eastbound, police said.
Using the Flock camera system, officers were able to determine and track the suspect vehicle fleeing east through town. Providing that information through ISPERN (Illinois State Police Radio Network), Harvey police located the offending vehicle and were able to provide information on a second vehicle the suspects entered after abandoning that first car in Harvey.
The suspects fled and were tracked to a location in Chicago, where New Lenox Police, with the assistance of Chicago Police SWAT, were able to find and apprehend multiple suspects.
Those suspects are being transported back to the New Lenox police department and a search warrant will be executed at the location in Chicago. The investigation will continue, and New Lenox police detectives will be working with the Will County State's Attorney's Office to determine charges.
This will be a lengthy investigation, and further updates will be provided as soon as they are available, police said.
"I want to thank the outstanding efforts of our patrol officers, investigators, and dispatchers, as well as the partnership and invaluable assistance from Harvey PD and Chicago PD, including their S.W.A.T. Team," New Lenox Police Mayor Tim Baldermann.
