NEW LENOX, IL — Two firefighters were honored this week for their heroic attempt in saving a New Lenox woman's life after a tree fell on her camper trailer July 4 in Kendall County, the Little Rock-Fox Fire Protection District said.
Dana Jenner, 47, died on Independence Day after a tree fell on a trailer parked at the Fox Creek RV Resort on Millbrook Road in Fox Township. Jenner, the only person in the trailer, was pronounced dead at the scene, as were two dogs who were inside with her.

Officials credited firefighters lan Proce and Jon Vickery, with the Berwyn and Oswego fire departments, respectively, who "immediately recognized the gravity of the situation and acted without hesitation to render aid to the trapped occupant."
"During storm conditions, assumed training, urgency, and dedicated commitment was brought forward to assist someone in danger," officials wrote in a news release. "Unselfish efforts continued before, during, and after duty crews from the Little Rock-Fox Fire Protection District and neighboring mutual aid departments arrived."
Officials said the Meritorious Cross award doesn't recognize a single moment but rather "the culture firefighters carry."
"Firefighters who live by this standard remain ready to help, whether the alarm sounds, or they simply come upon someone in need," the Little Rock-Fox Fire Protection District wrote. "By responding off duty with the same dedication expected on the job, Firefighter lan Proce and Firefighter Jon Vickery exemplified the highest traditions of the fire service — selflessness courage, and an unwavering commitment to others."
